About me
My love for photography started at a young age. I guess I was lucky to be surrounded by the perfect setting for landscape photography. Summers for me were spent “up north” in the Frankfort area. I quickly developed a passion for the picturesque surroundings of all the beautiful lakes, sand dunes, woods, and Lake Michigan’s miles of coast line. Judging by the thousands of M-22 stickers I see, I’m not the only one who recognizes the unique scenery that Michigan has to offer. It’s my goal to try and capture these qualities that make northern Michigan the great place it is. Aside from photography, I’m an elementary school teacher. I’ve been teaching fourth grade for 16 years in the Kentwood Public Schools district. This profession has helped me keep a creative edge, after all, to be an effective teacher I need to keep the attention of fourth graders. I’m constantly figuring out how to fine tune lesson plans and management skills. I think this plays directly into my photography. Individual students each have different perspectives that make teaching a challenging job. Each student has different needs, to help them succeed I need to step back and find a path that works for them. In order to stand out in the competitive field of photography, I will attempt to apply this same tactic. I will try to step back and find a different perspective, angle or lighting to capture the unique beauty of Michigan’s landscapes.
